Dentures are commonly used to replace missing teeth allowing you to speak and eat normally with a radiant smile.

What are dentures?

Also often known as false teeth, dentures are custom-made replacements for missing teeth. A removable denture consists of an acrylic base and prosthetic teeth that fit comfortably over your gums. You wear your denture during the day and remove it at night.

For patients with multiple missing teeth, dentures can significantly improve quality of life. Modern cosmetic dentures can look and feel very much like natural teeth. Eating and speaking become easier and more comfortable and your appearance is enhanced.

There are three main types of cosmetic dentures:

Full dentures

A full denture replaces an entire row of teeth at the top or the bottom of your mouth. Removable complete dentures are commonly held in place with a dental adhesive.

Partial dentures

A partial denture replaces several missing teeth and is commonly secured in place with clasps which are attached to adjacent healthy teeth.

Implant-supported dentures

Dental implants secured directly into the jawbone are used to support a specially designed denture.

What is the treatment for a denture?

During your initial consultation and dental examination, your dentist will explain the treatment that is right for you. Measurements of your mouth and impressions of your remaining teeth will be taken.

Dentures are custom-made from high-quality, natural colour acrylic material.

Depending on your individual case, a denture treatment may take several appointments to complete. During your final visit, your dentist will ensure your new denture fits securely and comfortably over your gums.

Taking care of your dentures

Your dentist will advise you on how to care for your denture when you have it fitted for the first time.

During the course of the day, dentures can potentially harbour small food particles and bacteria. If possible, you should clean your dentures after every meal. Dentures should also be removed and placed in an antibacterial cleaning solution overnight.
